Vol. 74 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Commission Warrants.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the economic position of a number of farmers in the Fermoy area is being destroyed owing to the seizure of cattle and other live stock by court messengers on foot of Land Commission warrants; that farms have been denuded of all stock, and that cattle worth £10 per head have been sold to a "Mr. O'Neill" at as little as £2 per head; and if he will direct that pending the report of the Agricultural Commission these sales should cease, or where a sale does take place, that a reasonable price is paid by purchasers on behalf of the Government.

The Land Commission are under a statutory obligation to collect the instalments of Land Purchase Annuities as they fall due but before resorting to the method of collection by seizure they are always prepared to consider any reasonable offer by the defaulter towards payment.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, does the Minister consider it fair or just or in accordance with Christian principles to allow the property of the poorer section of the community to be purchased at one-fifth of its value?

Where is Deputy Flynn of Kerry now?
