Written Answers. - Forestry and Land Improvement Schemes.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the total number of men employed on (a) forestry schemes; (b) Land Commission improvement schemes, in the constituency of Laoighis-Offaly, during (1) week ending September 2nd, 1939, and (2) week ending October 28th, 1939; and whether the sum already allocated for the carrying out of forestry schemes for year ending March 31st, 1940, has been or is being reduced.

In the Counties of Laoighis and Offaly the total numbers of men employed during the week ended 2nd September, 1939, were:—

On State forestry operations

On Land Commission improvement works

139

The numbers during the week ended 28th October, 1939, were:—

On Land Commission improvement works

The sums voted for forestry schemes during the year ending 31st March, 1940, have not been reduced, nor is it proposed to reduce them.
