Vol. 80 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Mayo Rivers.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that Mayo County Council have forwarded resolutions to the Commissioners of Public Works requesting that a scheme for the drainage of the Giveston, Pollock, and Yellow rivers be proceeded with; that considerable damage is caused to the farmers in the area because of the flooding of these rivers; and if he will now state what steps, if any, are being taken by the Commissioners to proceed with a scheme for the drainage of the rivers.

As the Deputy was informed in the Dáil on 4th July, 1939, further consideration of this drainage proposal has been deferred pending the report of the Drainage Commission. The Commissioners of Public Works did receive from time to time copies of resolutions regarding the project from the Mayo County Council but they have received none since the position was explained to the county council on the 15th February, 1938. Complaints of flooding in the area have not been made to the Commissioners for a considerable time.
