Vol. 81 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unified Local Services.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state whether it is the Government's intention to take such early steps as are necessary to remove the uncertainty and confusion that now prevail among the members of local authorities and boards of public assistance in the City and County of Dublin owing to delays in giving effect to the provisions of the Public Assistance Act, 1939, the County Management Act, 1939, and the Local Government (Dublin) Amendment Act, 1940, and to the suspension of the Local Government Bill, 1940; and whether a Bill will be introduced to give effect to the principle of unified local services for the city and county as recommended in the report of the Greater Dublin Tribunal, and, if so, when.

I have not received any official representations from the local authorities concerned in support of the statement in the first part of the question. As regards the latter part, I dealt with the matter during the debate in Committee on the County Management Bill and in the Second Reading of the Local Government (Dublin) (Amendment) Bill.
