Vol. 82 No. 2

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Service Pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state whether decisions have yet been arrived at in respect of claims for pensions under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934, submitted by the undermentioned persons, and, if not, if he will state the cause of delay in deciding those cases:—Mr. Edmund Crowe, Glenbane, Lattin, Tipperary; Mr. Patrick Lynch, Glenbane, Lattin, Tipperary; Mr. John Ryan, Lattin, Tipperary; Mr. William Riggs, Lattin, Tipperary; and Mr. M. Russell, Ballinacree, Emly, Tipperary.

Decisions have been reached on the applications for service certificates under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934, made by Messrs. Crowe, Lynch, Ryan and Riggs, of Lattin, Tipperary, and by Mr. Russell, of Ballinacree, Tipperary. The finding of the referee in each case has been communicated to the applicant.

I could not hear the Minister's reply in this matter. What I want to know is whether this thing is going to go on for ever. Day after day I am being nagged in connection with it. What I understand from the Minister and his Department is that they cannot get proper verification of those cases. If, by now, they cannot get verification, they ought to change the machinery, so as to get verification as to whether the people are entitled to a pension or not, and not have them annoying each and every one of us.

I stated in the answer that decisions have been reached in all the cases which the Deputy mentioned in his question.
