Vol. 82 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Service Pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the number of (a) disability pension, and (b) military service pension applications received from County Cork, the number of such pensions granted to date, the names of recipients and the amount of pension in each case; also the number of applications for (a) disability pensions and (b) military service pensions rejected, and (c) the number still undecided.

A statement is being prepared in so far as it is practicable to furnish the particulars required by the Deputy. This statement will be forwarded at an early date.

asked the Minister for Defence what is the cause of the delay in granting a military service pension to Patrick Coloe of Ardstown, Summerhill, County Meath; if he is aware that this case came before the Pensions Board over two years ago, that no decision has been reached so far, and if, in view of the applicant's part in the rising of Easter Week, 1916, and subsequent internment, he will expedite consideration of the case.

The referee has not yet reported on the application made under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934, by Mr. Patrick Coloe, Ardstown, Summerhill, County Meath. When a decision has been reached the applicant will be notified without any undue delay.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that it is now four years since the following men from Westmeath were before the Pension Board, viz., James Wrenn, James Duigan, William Glynn, Patrick Mooney, Thomas Goss, Michael Shanahan, Christopher Carey, and Luke Reid, of Kinnegad A. Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Brigade, and that no decision has been reached so far, and if he will expedite a decision in these cases.

Except in the case of Mr. Christopher Carey, in which the referee is not yet in a position to complete examination of the witnesses concerned, decisions have been reached on the other seven applicants mentioned by the Deputy.

The findings of the referee were communicated to the applicants on the 1st instant, except in the case of Mr. James Wrenn, who was notified of the referee's decision on the 2nd July last. Mr. Wrenn has now appealed against the decision of the referee.

I am not in a position to state when the referee will arrive at a decision on Mr. Wrenn's appeal.
