Vol. 84 No. 10

Private Business. - Housing (Amendment) Bill, 1941—Report and Fifth Stages.

I move:—

In page 3, lines 39 and 40, to delete Section 4 (4).

This amendment will meet in some way the point raised by Deputy Costello. The sub-section to be deleted sets out:

The Building Societies Acts, 1874 to 1936, and this Act may be cited together as the Building Societies Acts, 1874 to 1941.

Amendment agreed to.

I should like to ask the Minister whether sub-section (3) is not an unusual kind of arrangement in a Bill of this sort? It sets out that "the Labourers Acts, 1883 to 1937, and this Act may be cited together as the Labourers Acts, 1883 to 1941".

It is the usual thing. I have here a definition of the Labourers Acts. It is the usual provision in a number of Acts. The provision in the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act of 1931 is much on the same lines. In fact, the extension of the definitions goes further than this one does.

Question—"That the Bill, as amended, be received for final consideration"—put and agreed to.
Question—"That the Bill do now pass"—put and agreed to.
