Vol. 87 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supplies of Tea.

Mr. A. Byrne

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will state whether any communications have recently been entered into, or discussions taken place, with the British Government for an additional supply of tea, in exchange for goods now being exported to Britain from Éire.

The answer is in the negative.

Mr. Byrne

Is the Minister aware that there is a general desire in England to exchange tea and coal for all the extra beef and fats that this country can afford to send there?

I am not so aware. In fact, the very reverse is the case.

Mr. Byrne

Is the Minister aware that the ration of tea at present in force in Britain enables the people there to save tea? I have been asked by very influential people in England to bring forward the point made in my question, and I think the Minister would be well advised to follow it up. I would appeal to him to ascertain if there is any desire in England for an exchange of these commodities.
