Vol. 88 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Prices.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will state (a) the price of milk fixed by him for human consumption, giving particulars of seasonal and district variations; (a) the basis on which those prices were fixed, and whether cost of production was taken into account.

As regards the first part of the question the prices fixed by me have been published in Iris Oifigiúil. The relevant Orders are:—(1) Milk (Retail Price) (Dublin Sale District) Order, 1942, which applies to the County Borough of Dublin, the Administrative County of Dublin and the Urban District of Bray; (2) Milk (Retail Price) (No.2) Order, 1942, which applies to all parts of the State with the exception of the County Borough of Dublin, the Administrative County of Dublin, the Urban District of Bray and the Administrative County of Louth; (3) Milk (Retail Price) (County Louth) (No. 2) Order, 1942.

As regards the second part of the question, the Minister for Agriculture has fixed minimum prices to be paid to producers in the areas of the Dublin and Cork District Milk Boards, and he has, I am sure, taken all the relevant facts into consideration in determining these prices. The maximum retail prices fixed by me were fixed in relation to the minimum price to producers as fixed by the Minister for Agriculture; the scale of prices applicable in the case of the Cork District Milk Board has been taken as applying to the rest of the State excluding the Dublin Sale District and the Administrative County of Louth.
