Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coastwatchers' Gratuities.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state whether the coastwatchers employed during the emergency were entitled on demobilisation to either (a) a civilian suit or (b) a money gratuity, and, further, if he will state whether the gratuity or the civilian suit has been provided in all cases.

A non-commissioned officer or man of the marine and coast-watching service on full-time service on or after 16th February, 1945, is, on discharge, or final release from permanent service, entitled to a civilian suit or an allowance of £3 10s. in liou thereof, provided that he is entitled to an emergency gratuity under Defence Force Regulations.

If any discharged member of the service, who fulfils these conditions, has not received the suit or the allowance in lieu, he should make application to the Department.
