Vol. 99 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supplementary Allowance for Old Age Pensioners.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that numerous people in North Cork, who are in receipt of the full old age pension of 10/- a week, have been refused the supplementary allowance of 2/6 a week, and whether he intends to make an Order compelling the county manager to pay said people such supplementary allowance.

The grant of a supplementary allowance in the case of any necessitous old age pensioner or certain other persons in receipt of assistance from public funds rests entirely with the public assistance authority. The Minister has no statutory power to make an Order of the nature suggested by the Deputy.
