Vol. 101 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Sub-Post Office.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs what steps have been taken in connection with the establishment of the proposed sub-post office at Crossard, Ballyhaunis, County Mayo; whether any appointment of sub-postmaster has been made in this case; if he will state the number of applicants for the post; and whether he has received any reports as to the suitability of the premises of such applicants.

On the representations of Deputies Walsh and Moran and on receipt of a memorial from the people of the area, including the parish priest of Aughamore and the Fianna Fáil cumann, I have had the necessary inquiries made and have now authorised the opening of a new sub-office in the Tooreen-Crossard area, but a sub-postmaster has not yet been appointed.

But he is building a house, all the same.

He knows he is going to get the job.

The usual steps have been taken to advertise the vacancy locally. No report is yet available.

The roof will be on next week.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, is he aware that the gentleman who is going to be appointed sub-postmaster is a teacher in the technical school and already has a house partly constructed; and that he has, in fact, been appointed, although the Minister denies that that is so?

Is he a member of the Fianna Fáil cumann?

Oh, indeed, he is. He is a "Yes" man of the Fianna Fáil cumann.

I am delighted to hear it, because so far I have heard nothing about it.
