Vol. 101 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Swinford Sub-Postmastership.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state when, and in what manner, the vacancy for a sub-postmaster at Swinford post office was advertised; whether it is a fact that the appointment was made on the 1st April last; and also if the delay in commencing business is due to the fact that the appointee has no suitable premises.

The vacancy for a sub-postmaster at Swinford was advertised during the period 30-4-1945 to 15-5-1945, inclusive, by exhibiting an official notice in the window of the sub-office concerned. This is the normal procedure. It is not a fact that the appointment was made on the 1st April last. The newly-appointed sub-postmaster was installed on 13-6-1946, and there was no abnormal delay in his taking up duty. His premises are central and suitable.
