Vol. 101 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Home-grown Tomatoes.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in order to protect the consuming public, he is prepared to fix reasonable prices for home-grown tomatoes.

The question of fixing maximum prices for home-grown main-crop tomatoes is being considered. If it is decided to fix maximum prices an announcement will be made in due course.

The Minister will appreciate the necessity of fixing such prices. He will understand that it is only fair to consumers, who have to pay high prices for home-grown tomatoes, due to the fact that they must be purchased owing to the embargo on imports.

These are the blessings of self-sufficiency, God bless the mark.
