Vol. 103 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Extension of Allotments Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will consider an extension of the allotments scheme so as to permit widows and old age pensioners to be included, on the same basis as unemployed persons; and whether, to enable better advantage to be taken of this useful scheme, he will increase the income limit to permit such persons to participate in the scheme to its fullest extent.

Widows in receipt of widows' pensions if they are unemployed can obtain allotments on the same conditions as other unemployed persons if their incomes are within the prescribed income limits. Old age pensioners cannot be regarded as being employable. It is not proposed to make any alteration in the existing income limits.
