Vol. 104 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Council Workers' Wages.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will be prepared to sanction increases in the wages of road workers, bog workers and all county council workers in cases where the county manager is prepared to grant increases; and if he will give sanction to increases in pay to all such workers in view of continued rise in cost of living.

Proposals for increases in wages to employees of local authorities have received and will continue to receive careful consideration. Manual workers employed by local authorities, generally, have received substantial increases in wages since 1939.

The Parliamentary Secretary does not seem to have answered the question I put to him. I asked him whether his Department is prepared to consider increases in the wages of county council workers in cases where the county manager is prepared to grant the increases.

Such proposals will receive careful consideration, as I have already indicated to the Deputy.
