Vol. 104 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fish Barrel Shortage.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that it was almost impossible to obtain fish barrels last year; if he will state the prospects of obtaining barrels this year; and if any steps have been taken by his Department to procure supplies of staves and ends for the manufacture of fish barrels.

I am aware that it was difficult to obtain fish barrels last year. Supplies of native softwood and hardwood timbers have been and will continue to be made available for the manufacture of such barrels. The prospect of obtaining supplies of staves and ends for the manufacture of fish barrels from outside sources is not very bright but possibilities are being investigated.
