Vol. 104 No. 18

Written Answers. - Erection of New School in West Cork.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the necessity for the erection of a new school at Cill Mhuire, Lissard, West Cork, to replace the old insanitary building now used; and if, in view of the fact that the efforts made to induce the manager to take action in this matter have, so far, been without result, he will state what further steps he now proposes, with a view to securing the erection of this much-needed school.

I am aware of the need for the erection of a new school to replace the present Kilmurry Boys' and Girls' National Schools, Lissard, County Cork. My Department has been in correspondence with the manager in the case over a prolonged period, but certain preliminary steps have still to be taken on the manager's part before a grant can be sanctioned from State funds towards the cost of the new school. Every effort will be made by my Department to have the case expedited, with a view to enabling a grant to be sanctioned and the erection of the new school to be proceeded with as soon as possible.
