Vol. 105 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dingle Harbour Improvements.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that, owing to the pressing need for dredging the approach to the channel and berths at Dingle, County Kerry, the fishermen there are unable to take advantage of more than one-third of the fishing days; that the reclamation of the foreshore will provide necessary cover for open discharge of sewerage and a very suitable building site for fishermen's houses; that the removal of part of the ridge known as Black Point would provide an outlet for the present obstructing silt; and if he will now state if he will give consideration to the carrying out of a comprehensive scheme to improve conditions at Dingle Harbour for fishermen.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will provide a crane, of a lifting capacity not to exceed five tons, for shipping and unshipping masts, spars and other equipment of fishing boats at Dingle Harbour, County Kerry.

I propose, with your permission, Sir, to take Questions Nos. 23 and 24 together.

Representations in regard to the need for dredging, reclamation of foreshore and erection of crane at Dingle have been made to me by the Dingle Harbour Commissioners. Provision for such services is not made in the Estimates for my Department, but I am having these matters examined with a view to seeing what measure of State assistance it may be possible for me to recommend, having in mind the development of the local fishing industry and the facilities required for that purpose.
