Vol. 108 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Kerry Embankments.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have carried out an inspection of the embankments of the Ownagarry River, in the townlands of Annadale, Meanus, and Ownagarry, Killorglin, County Kerry; and if they have come to a decision as to what assistance they intend to give for the purpose of having these embankments repaired.

The Land Commission have completed inquiries in this matter and propose to have repairs carried out to embankments adjoining the River Laune, the condition of which has been causing flooding in the townland of Annadale. The cost will be borne partly by the income accrued to credit of a small fund provided on the sale of the Blennerhassett estate to assist in the maintenance of these works and partly by way of free grant.

The flooding in the townlands of Meanus and Ownagarry appears to be caused mainly by the disrepair of a ramp in the townland of Ownagarry and the Land Commission are not prepared to take any action in the matter.

I have written to the Deputy about this case in greater detail.
