asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state for each of the counties of Ireland the number of men employed on road work, in all its branches, on 30th April and 22nd May in each of the years, 1940, 1941, 1946, 1947 and 1948.

Figures for the dates mentioned by the Deputy are not available in the Department. The statement given herewith indicates the number of men employed by direct labour on road and bridge works by each county council and county borough corporation in mid-May in the years 1940, 1941, 1946 and 1947. The figures do not include men employed on works financed out of the Employment and Emergency Schemes Vote.
The figures for 1948 will be sent to the Deputy when available.
