Vol. 111 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers - Price of Land.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will say under what statute, or statutes, the price paid by the Land Commission for vested and unvested land is determined, as indicated by him in his reply to a supplementary question on the 22nd ultimo.

The statutory provisions relating to the price to be paid for land acquired by the Land Commission are continued in Section 25 (2) of the Land Act, 1923, which applies to vested holdings acquired as untenanted land and Section 39 (5) of the Land Act, 1939, which applies to unvested holdings resumed by the Land Commission.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, is the Minister aware that under the 1923 Act vested land can be purchased at one-third of its value, whereas under the 1939 Act unvested land must be paid for at its full market value? Is the Minister aware that there is a grave anomaly and injustice as between these two sections of the farming community?

The Minister is not aware that there is any injustice.

Is the Minister aware that a Land Act has been introduced to remedy this?

He is — fully.
