Vol. 112 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cavan Bus Service.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is now in a position to state when Córas Iompair Éireann will provide a bus service from Mullingar to Cavan with a branch service to Killeshandra to replace the existing rail passenger service; further if he will ensure that this service is extended to the town of Gowna which is rapidly developing as a tourist centre.

I am informed by Córas Iompair Éireann that an omnibus service will be provided between Mullingar/Cavan/Killeshandra as from 26th July. The service is being scheduled to make rail connections, and, as only one vehicle can be made available at present, the company are unable to extend the service to Gowna. They will consider the needs of Gowna. and other areas where there is a demand for transport facilities when their vehicle position improves.
