Vol. 112 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission intends to rearrange the numerous rundale estates in County Mayo, especially those from which migrants have been transferred.

The answer is "yes".

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the number of estates in County Mayo, their total acreage and the names of their owners in all cases where notices of resumption have been served or where they have been before the Land Commission Court.

Apart from the disproportionate amount of labour involved in extracting the information from the Land Commission records I do not consider it desirable that lists of the names of owners of lands the subject of acquisition proceedings should be supplied in the way requested. I assume that the Deputy is interested in ascertaining the amount of land in which proceedings are under way at the moment for the acquisition of untenanted land and the resumption of tenanted holdings. The total area involved in such proceedings in County Mayo at present is 8,000 acres approximately.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission has or intends to put into effect as a policy the prevention of the sale of all land in County Mayo with a view to resuming all such land for the purpose of the relief of congestion.

The answer is "No."
