Vol. 113 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mental Hospital Employees and Superannuation.

asked the Minister for Health whether it is intended to introduce proposals for legislation to amend sub-section (1) of Section 79 of the Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1948, so as to provide an increased superannuation allowance to those employees of mental hospital authorities who had ceased to hold office before the 1st day of July, 1940, and thereby provide them with some alleviation from the ever-increasing cost of living.

Any proposal for reviewing the pensions of officers and employees of mental hospital committees who retired before the 1st July, 1940, would have to be examined in relation to the adjustment of pensions of superannuated officers and employees of public authorities both central and local as a whole. The question of instituting a comprehensive review of this kind is still under consideration by the Departments concerned.
