Vol. 114 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Pigs.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of his efforts to encourage the production of pigs for bacon export, and of the fact that 225/- per cwt. f.o.b., for bacon for the British market was guaranteed only until the 30th September, 1949, he will take immediate steps to secure from Great Britain at least a four-year guaranteed price equal to that to be paid for bacon from Northern Ireland, whilst he still has the bargaining power of no bacon for export.

I have every reason to believe that the price to be paid for bacon imported from this country by the British Ministry of Food after 30th September, 1949, will compare favourably with the price paid for bacon imported from other countries.
