Vol. 114 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Knitting Wool.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the price of knitting wool has been advanced by 1d. per oz. recently; and, if so, whether he will state what steps, if any, he proposes taking with a view to restoring the price to the former level.

I am aware that the price of Irish-manufactured knitting wool has been advanced recently by ½d. per oz. for yarn manufactured from native wool and by 1d. per oz. for yarn manufactured from imported tops. I am satisfied that this increase is due to the continued rise in the price of raw wool and that no increase in the marginal profits of distributors or in the profits of the manufacturers is represented in the new prices.
