Vol. 114 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Clare Unemployment.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if any complaints have reached his Department regarding the large number of men at present unemployed in the Bridgetown, O'Briensbridge and Killaloe districts in County Clare and what steps, if any, he proposes taking to provide suitable employment in these areas.

No complaints regarding unemployment in any of the districts referred to in the Deputy's question have been received in my Department. I have, however, received a complaint that owing to a fall of rock, a number of men were laid off by the Killaloe Slate Quarry Company, Limited which is situated at some distance from the areas mentioned. I cannot say to what extent, if any, this disemployment affected men in those areas. I am informed that the man who were temporarily laid off have now been re-employed.
