Vol. 117 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coast Erosion.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider introducing proposals for legislation to deal with the very urgent problem of coast erosion.

Proposals for legislation to deal with coast erosion are under consideration but I am not aware that the problem is a very urgent one.

Is the Minister aware that I am aware that it is a very urgent one in my constituency——

That will not hasten the legislation.

—— and in various other parts of the country?

I am not aware of that.

You should be.

It is peculiar that it only became urgent in the last 18 months.

Is the Minister aware that as Minister for Industry and Commerce 20 years ago he set up a commission to examine this question as a matter of urgent public importance?

That report was not acted on for the last 20 years.

Do you agree with its recommendations now?
