Vol. 118 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork School.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware that a site has been procured for the erection of a new school in Glantane, Mallow, County Cork; and, if so, whether he will state if it is proposed to begin work on the building in the immediate future in view of the fact that the present school is a danger to the health of the children who are attending it.

I am aware that a suitable site has been obtained for the erection of a new school to replace the existing Glantane National School, County Cork, which is defective. The question of the accommodation to be provided in the new building is being investigated at present and when a decision in the matter has been reached (as I expect it will at a very early date), the Department will communicate with the manager in regard to the remaining preliminary arrangements which will require to be completed before a grant can be sanctioned towards the cost of the new school. I am unable to say at present when work on the erection of the new building will begin, but the Deputy can be assured that every effort is being made, and will continue to be made to expedite matters.
