Vol. 118 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authorities (Works) Act.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the number of works sanctioned for (a) Offaly; and (b) Laoighis, under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949; the location of each work, and the total amount granted.

Thirty schemes under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949, have been approved for execution in the current financial year by Offaly County Council and 49 by Laoighis County Council. The grants allocated in respect of these works are £12,116 in the case of Offaly and £42,290 in the case of Laoighis. Two further schemes are the subject of correspondence between my Department and Offaly County Council. The location of each of the approved works could not readily be given in a reply to a Parliamentary Question, but the schedules containing details of the schemes will be available in the Department for inspection, if the Deputy so desires.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary now state who is responsible for the future maintenance of these works, as there is some confusion throughout the country on the point?

I rather thought it was cleared up during the discussion on the Bill.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary now state who is responsible for the future maintenance of the works carried out under the Local Authorities (Works) Act?

That is a separate question.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary state who is responsible for the future maintenance of these works referred to in the question?

That is still a separate question.

Who is responsible for blocking the initiation of them?

That is the best one we have had yet.

That is the best laugh you have had since Donegal.
