Vol. 118 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal National School.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state whether he has received an application for the erection of a national school in the Tower-Riskin district near Pettigo, County Donegal, and, if so, whether he will give early and favourable consideration to it in view of the fact that there are over 40 children in the district and that the nearest school is seven miles distant.

The provision of educational facilities for the children residing in this area has been engaging the Department's attention for a considerable time. The children reside in two districts—Tullyvogey and Carntressy—which are separated from one another by a stretch of bog and marshland across which there is no connecting road. It has not been found possible to cater for the educational needs of these children otherwise than by a transport service to a national school near Pettigo, and this transport service has been in operation for a number of years. The position has recently been investigated by the divisional inspector and active consideration is at present being given to the question as to whether any more satisfactory arrangement than the transport service can be made.
