Vol. 118 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pensions Means Assessment.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he will introduce proposals for legislation to provide that small allowances such as those given by an outside Government for the loss of a son killed in the late war, shall not be taken into account when assessing the means of an applicant for the old age pension.

Income which a person may reasonably expect to receive in cash must be treated as means for the purposes of the Old Age Pensions Acts. The Deputy will appreciate that it would be inequitable to make a discrimination in favour of persons in receipt of any particular class of income.
