Vol. 119 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Firkale (Glengariff) Sub-Post Office.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if representations have been made to him in connection with the opening of a sub-post office at Firkale, Glengarriff; and whether he is aware that the failure to open an office in this area makes it necessary for many old age pensioners to walk a distance of as much as six miles to collect their pensions; and, if so, whether he will take steps to establish the necessary office there immediately.

I have received representations for the opening of a sub-post office at Firkale, Glengarriff. I find, however, that the amount of postal business likely to be transacted at an office at Firkale would not justify the cost of its establishment and maintenance, particularly since the existing postal service in the area is being run at considerable loss and Firkale is only two miles from Glengarriff.
