Vol. 119 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Footwear Scheme.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state whether the footwear scheme is to be continued during the current year, and, if so, the amount of money to be allocated to it and further if he will state the amount allocated under the scheme for the last three financial years.

The Deputy appears to be under a misapprehension. The footwear scheme for the current year (1949-50) has been in operation since August, 1949. A total sum of £37,500 was made available for the scheme in the current year, £30,000 being provided for the children of persons not otherwise in receipt of home assistance and £7,500 for the children of persons who are in receipt of home assistance. The same provision was made in the three previous financial years.
