Vol. 119 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Minor Employment Schemes (County Kerry).

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether any list of minor employment schemes is at present in course of preparation for County Kerry or whether any such schemes are to be carried out in County Kerry in the spring or summer of this year.

In accordance with the practice in previous years, minor employment schemes are undertaken only in the winter period—i.e., October to March—when the number of unemployment assistance recipients on the register in rural areas is at its maximum. Apart from exceptional cases which may arise, it is not proposed to authorise any scheme during the coming spring or summer, as they would divert labour from tillage and turf operations.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what money has been allocated under minor employment schemes in North Kerry for the year 1950-51 and whether a greater allocation will be made than in previous years.

The allocation for County Kerry in 1950-51 has not yet been made, but the Deputy can be assured that each portion of the county will receive its proportionate allocation of such funds as are available.
