Vol. 119 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - River Maine Drainage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Finance whether it is proposed to complete the River Maine drainage scheme, County Kerry, under the Arterial Drainage Acts in the near future, and whether, pending this, it is proposed to assist the riparian owners in the maintenance of the embankments and the repair of the many breaches caused by recent floods.

A comprehensive scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, for the River Maine catchment area will be formulated as soon as possible, but I am not in a position at this stage to forecast when the scheme can be taken up.

I have no responsibility for the maintenance of the embankments. I understand, however, that the question of affording assistance in certain cases is being considered by the Land Commission.
