Vol. 119 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Arigna Collieries.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that a number of collieries in Arigna, in which approximately 300 men are employed, are liable to be closed down very soon unless a market is obtained for the coal; and, if so, whether he will indicate what steps he is prepared to take in obtaining a market for the output of these mines.

I have received representations on behalf of some colliery owners in the Arigna area to the effect that they are finding difficulty in disposing of their output. I have asked the parties concerned to state the nature of the help they expect from me and I am awaiting a reply.
