Vol. 119 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the reason for the protracted delay in the provision of a sewerage and water scheme for Ballingarry, County Limerick.

The county council's proposals for a water supply at Ballingarry were approved in September, 1948, but the scheme has been held up by difficulties in securing the necessary water rights. Negotiations between the county council and the owners are proceeding for the acquisition of certain wells. The provision of sewerage must await the completion of the water supply scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware of the need for a water scheme for Tournafulla, County Limerick, and whether he will undertake to expedite as much as possible the provision of a suitable water supply for Tournafulla village and its national schools.

The initiation of water supply schemes rests with the sanitary authorities. No plans for a scheme at Tournafulla have been submitted to me by Limerick County Council.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the reason for the delay in improving the water supply to the village of Skeheenarinky, Clogheen.

I understand that the county council are at present investigating the possibility of improving the water supply at Skeheenarinky. No proposals have yet been submitted to me in the matter.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the position of the Castletownroche regional, Glanworth and Rockmills Bartlemy water schemes in the North Cork public health area.

Documents for Castletownroche regional water supply, revised to allow for the inclusion of Bally-hooly in the scheme, have been received in the Department and are being approved.

A tender has been accepted by the sanitary authority for the Glanworth water supply scheme, subject to my approval. A decision in the matter will issue shortly.

Certain technical aspects of the proposed scheme for the supply of water to Rockmills are under discussion between the sanitary authority and my Department. When these are settled preparation of contract documents will be put in hands.

Approval was issued last month to the acceptance of a tender for the Bartlemy water supply.
