asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the number of persons who were released from Portlaoise Prison in each of the years 1947, 1948 and 1949, and, in respect of each year, the number of such persons for whom transport to their destination was provided by means of a police car.

In 1947, 1948 and 1949 the numbers released were 92, 88 and 80, respectively. Only one person was transported in a police car during these years.
Can the Minister say if the prison population has fallen considerably since 18th February, 1948?
