Vol. 121 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Partition.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state whether the Government propose to take any fresh steps to bring an end to Partition.

All just methods calculated to achieve the ending of Partition will continue to be employed as occasion offers. Already the urgency of a solution of this grave problem is being realised in many countries abroad. I am confident that a peaceful solution will come, in time, not alone through the pressure of opinion on those who are primarily responsible for Partition, but also through a better understanding of their own true interests on the part of those Irishmen in the Six Counties who are at present opposed to the reunification of our common country.

Will the Taoiseach, at the earliest opportunity, take steps to counteract or contradict the statement attributed in the public Press to a Northern M.P., that a solution of Partition is dependent on the consent of Britain?

I think we have already made quite clear our attitude in that matter.
