Vol. 121 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - House Building at Gort.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the scheme for the rebuilding of Crow Street, Gort, County Galway, has been shelved, and if he will state the reasons therefor and on whose recommendation it was done, and if he will further state what progress was made in the rebuilding prior to the shelving of the scheme.

An Order for the compulsory acquisition of certain properties in Crow Lane, Gort, was annulled by me on 20th April, 1950, after careful consideration of the report of the inspector who held a public local inquiry into the matter. I am informed by the county manager that no rebuilding took place on this site prior to the annulment of the Order.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the number of applicants for houses in Gort town, County Galway, and the number of families living in houses condemned as unfit for human habitation.

I understand that the number of applicants for new houses in Gort town is 32 and that of these, 31 are living in houses condemned as unfit for human habitation.
