Vol. 121 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Commission on Emigration.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the date of the establishment of the Commission on Emigration, the number of sittings it has had since, whether the commission has yet presented an interim report, and at what date he expects the commission's final report.

The warrant of appointment setting up the Commission on Emigration and Other Population Problems was dated 5th April, 1948, and the commission held its first meeting on 22nd April, 1948. They have held 77 meetings, of which ten were half-day meetings, 66 were full-day meetings and one was of one and a half day's duration. I understand the commission does not propose to submit an interim report. As to its final report, I would direct the Deputy's attention to my remarks arising out of questions by Deputy Lehane on the 18th ultimo.

I thought the Tánaiste had a cure for unemployment?

The Deputy, I presume, rose to ask a parliamentary question, not to express his thoughts.

If there is any cure, I would use the first one on the Deputy.

Charity begins at home.
