Vol. 121 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Traffic Signals at Cabra (Dublin).

asked the Minister for Justice if he will advise the Garda authorities to urge on the Corporation of Dublin the great necessity for having traffic signals erected at the junction known as Boland's Corner, Cabra Road, Dublin.

The Commissioner of the Garda Síochána, who has already considered this matter, informs me that he does not consider that the weight of traffic at the junction referred to would justify him in urging the corporation to erect traffic signals.

Is the Minister aware that there have been serious accidents at that particular junction during the past 12 months? In view of the serious accident that occurred there recently will he recommend to the Commissioner that he should alter his decision?

I shall bring the matter to the Commissioner's notice. I have already done so, and the reply he has given me is that he does not consider it necessary. Fortunately, or unfortunately, he is the authority.

He referred to the volume of traffic. I am not interested in the volume of traffic, but I am interested in the serious accidents that have occurred at this particular junction on the Cabra Road.
