asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that a boreen at Rathglassan, Athlone, about one statute mile in length and connecting two roads, is used by 14 families whose lands and premises adjoin the boreen, and by a large number of the general public who use it for carting turf, etc., and if he will take the matter up with the local authority with a view to having this boreen taken over and maintained as a country road.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Maintenance of Westmeath Boreen.
This is a matter for the county council to decide. I am not aware of the circumstances of this case, but it is not my practice to encourage road authorities to add to the mileage of public roads which is already exceptionally high and a heavy charge on public funds.
With your permission, Sir, I propose to raise the subject matter of question No. 8 on the Adjournment.
Very good.
Would it be in order at this stage to ask the Tánaiste if he could give the House any idea of when it is proposed to conclude the session?
I think it would be more relevant to-morrow at the start of business.
