asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will consider instituting special radio programmes of interest to Irish emigrants at present living in many parts of Great Britain.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Special Radio Programmes.
Parliamentary Secretary to Minister for Local Government (Mr. Corish) (for Minister for Posts and Telegraphs)
I do not think it necessary or desirable to have programmes designed specially for Irish listeners in Britain. I do not believe that our people abroad would be attracted by programmes directed at them but rather by the programmes with a native atmosphere which they would hear if they were at home. The programmes generally heard from Radio Éireann are of a distinctive Irish character and there is ample evidence that they are appreciated in Britain.
