Vol. 123 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electricity Development.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will give particulars of the expenditure of the sum of £2,100,000 in the first six months of the current financial year on electricity development.

The sum of £2,100,000 referred to by the Deputy represents the amount of the advances made to the Electricity Supply Board from the Central Fund under the Electricity (Supply) Acts, 1927-1949, during the period from 1st April, 1950, to 30th September last.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that, during the same period, the expenditure by the board on capital assets constructed, or in the course of construction, for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity amounted to approximately £2,850,000. I am further informed that is is not possible to segregate this expenditure readily as between the individual activities referred to. The actual expenditure for the year to 31st March, 1951, will, of course, be shown in the accounts of the board when published after the close of the year.
