Vol. 123 No. 14

- Wool Prices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what steps will be taken to ensure that woollen goods at present stocked by wholesalers and manufacturers which were made from wool bought at pre-inflation costs will not be retailed at prices based on the recent increase in the price of raw wool.

From a recent investigation of this matter I have no evidence that woollen goods made from wool purchased at pre-inflation costs are being sold by manufacturers at prices based on the recent increase in the price of raw wool. The maximum retail price of woollen and other controlled articles of drapery of home manufacture held in stock by wholesalers and retailers was marked on the articles before delivery by the manufacturer. It is illegal for traders to remove or alter these price marks.
