Vol. 125 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relief of Agriculture.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total amount paid out of revenue in the year 1950-51 for the benefit of farmers, including relief of agricultural rates, land rehabilitation, drainage, local works and schemes administered by the Department of Agriculture and other Departments.

I estimate that the total amount which fell to be paid out of revenue in the year 1950-51 for the benefit of farmers was £10,530,000. Expenditure on land rehabilitation, on drainage works and on certain local works has not been included in this figure, as it was met from borrowing and not from revenue.

Would the Minister state what would be the estimate of the cost of running the farmers of this country under Deputy Cowan's collective farm system?

That is a separate question.

I think if there was any question of that there would not be the same draw from revenue.
