Vol. 127 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Workmen's Compensation.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware of the hardships suffered by those in receipt of workmen's compensation payments which are now inadequate to meet the increase in the cost of living; and, if so, if he will at an early date introduce proposals for legislation to increase the benefits under the Workmen's Compensation Acts.

Pending the introduction of the general social security scheme which I have under consideration, I do not intend to introduce proposals for the further amendment of the Workmen's Compensation Acts.

When will the Minister be in a position to introduce the social welfare scheme?

I hope before Christmas.
